155 mm HE M1A4 ERFB/BB Round

The 155 mm HE M1A4 High Explosive Extended Range Full Bore with Base Bleed (ERFB/BB) projectile is designed for the engagement and suppression of land targets, including counter-battery fire, enemy troop concentrations, vehicle columns, and area targets.

The 155 mm HE M1A4 ERFB/BB is a modern extended-range artillery projectile. ERFB denotes an optimized aerodynamic shape, while BB indicates the presence of a base bleed unit. Base bleed reduces base drag by decreasing low-pressure wake behind the projectile, thereby increasing range. The projectile retains a conventional high-explosive fragmentation effect. Thanks to base bleed, it can achieve ranges exceeding 30 km depending on barrel length and charge. Accuracy is superior to older M107-type projectiles. Disadvantages include higher cost and more complex manufacturing. This munition enables deep fire support without the use of rocket assistance.
